The Jaisalmer Desert Festival is a three-day folkloric event held annually in Northwestern India during the month of February. It takes place in the “Golden City” of Jaisalmer, which is located in the heart of the Thar Desert (also known as the Great Indian Desert) and the Sam Dunes, in the state of Rajasthan near the Pakistani border. The festival celebrates the richness of Rajasthani culture, art, folkdance, music, and sports. Throughout each day there is a plethora of events. Morning, afternoon and evening you will see bright colors everywhere, richly decorated camels, men and women in ornate traditional dress, snake charmers, puppeteers, acrobats, folk dancers, singers, musicians, camel races, camel polo, a mustache contest, a tug-of-war, a turban tying contest, and more.
